Robberson named Beauregard Parish High School Teacher of the Year

Page Robberson, business teacher at Merryville High School, has been named a 2025-2026 Beauregard Parish High School Teacher of the Year.

The Louisiana Department of Education sponsors the Excellent Educators Award Program annually to recognize the state’s most exceptional teachers. Those teachers who demonstrate expertise in their field, who are innovative in creating pathways for student success, who build collaborative relationships with students, parents, and colleagues, who deliberately connect the classroom to the community, and who are inspiring and engaging are considered for the program.

Robberson has been an educator for 21 years in Beauregard Parish. She has taught at Singer High School, DeRidder High School, and has served as the business teacher at Merryville High School for the past 19 years. She has instructed Entrepreneurship, Computer Technology Literacy, Business Math, BCA, IBCA, Business English, Digital Media, and Desktop Publishing.

She serves as the FBLA sponsor, the Dual Enrolment liaison, the Varsity Cheer sponsor, and the Co-Sponsor for the Senior Class. In addition, she has been an Adjunct Instructor at Sowela Technical Community College teaching Career Success for the past nine years.

She is an Adobe Certified Associate, a CIW Internet Business Associate, and a Microsoft Office Specialist in Word and Powerpoint.

She received her Bachelor of Arts in Secondary Education with an emphasis in Business Education from McNeese State University and has also earned her Master of Education in Educational Technology Leadership/Facilitator, and completed her Library Certification at McNeese.

She has been named the 2016-2017 and the 2025-2026 Merryville High School Teacher of the Year.

Robberson believes that for students to be successful in the classroom, they need to understand how they learn and why they learn in that way.

“Every individual processes material differently,” she explained, “and understanding how this works can determine one’s successful completion and understanding in their coursework.”

At the beginning of each school year, students in her classes complete a Learning Styles Questionnaire. They discover if they have tendencies toward kinesthetic/tactile, visual, or auditory learning styles, and then are encouraged to use that information to become better learners. Robberson ensures that lessons cater to all styles of learning so that students have opportunities to interact with styles that help them process and retain information as they pursue their studies in her class.

Robberson also encourages her students to develop the skills to be lifelong learners.

“Your mind is a tool,” she said, “and it should be constantly challenged with new skills and experiences.”

Students in her classroom engage with lessons, new skills, daily journals, and hands-on experiences that replicate real-world scenarios so that they are constantly being challenged. She creates a welcoming learning environment, nurtures students’ confidence, encourages their curiosity, and inspires them to do their best.

Her favorite thing about teaching is encountering former students and hearing about the lasting impact of her class on their education and their careers.

“My hope is for all my students to learn the skills that will motivate them to become successful adults,” she concluded, “no matter what path they choose.”
