Youth Art Month celebrated at RealArt DeRidder Gallery

Beauregard Parish students’ art work will be exhibited at the RealArt DeRidder (RAD) Gallery throughout the month of March in celebration of Youth Art Month, said Eddie Joslin, BPSB Supervisor of Fine Arts.Youth Art Month 2020 (2)

 


“We are excited to partner with the RealArt Gallery once again to display the talent of our parish high school art students,” he said.


Works from students at South Beauregard High School, DeRidder High School, East Beauregard High School, Merryville High School, and Singer High School will be on exhibit each Wednesday and the first and third Saturdays from 11:00 a.m. – 3:00 p.m. for public viewing at the gallery at 108 W. First Street in DeRidder.

Youth Art Month 2020 (1)The artwork will be judged by a panel of gallery artists and the student artists will be awarded for best in show and best in categories. In addition, each school’s art program will be awarded a subsidy for art supplies.


“Our community has always been supportive in promoting the arts in our area,” Joslin stated. “We are pleased that our art students are given this opportunity to have their work displayed in a professional gallery.”

 

“We want to thank the DeRidder RealArt Gallery for sponsoring this event annually to recognize our student artists, for hosting the reception, and for awarding our art departments to help promote art programs,” he concluded.


Art teachers in participating schools include: Kim Hockensmith, SBHS, Jenna Sonnier, DHS, Katy Geymann, EBHS, and Jill Storer, MHS/SHS.
