Welcome to the web site of DeRidder Junior High School in DeRidder, Louisiana. DJHS has approximately 675 students in grades 6-8 with 80 faculty and staff members. The students and staff at DeRidder Junior High School work hard to continue a tradition of academic excellence and recognition.

In 2008, our school was named a Demonstration Site by the Positive Behavior Support Project. In October of 2009, DJHS became a pilot school to begin the secondary phase of PBS. DJHS was nominated by the Louisiana State Department of Education for the U. S. Department of Education’s 2009 Blue Ribbon Schools Program. In August, we received word that DJHS was in fact named a Blue Ribbon School; one of only 6 schools in Louisiana and 312 nationwide.

Our Web site contains links to many resources which will help parents, students, and community members stay informed about our school and our progress. We continually look for ways to provide opportunities for all students to be successful in an inviting school environment. The staff at DeRidder Junior High School is committed to doing its best to help students grow academically, socially, and emotionally. We are fortunate to have active parent organizations that are supportive. We also have generous Partners in Education which contribute to a variety of programs and projects focused on developing assets in our youth. We invite you to visit our school and become involved with your child's learning.

On a personal note, it is fairly strange and wonderful to be starting my third phase of education at DJHS. I can remember walking these halls as a 7th and 8th grade student in the early 80's. Band concerts, basketball games, after school detention with Mr. L.V. Scott....all fond memories of a different time, different expectations. In 1995, it was a great opportunity for me to be able to come back home and continue my teaching career at DJHS. Those six years of teaching band were very rewarding, seeing some of the best students in DJHS come through my classroom on a daily basis. I see alot of those young men and women around town, and I am always interested in finding out what they are doing now with their lives. So here I am today. Privileged to be able call myself DJHS Principal. Having been through the first two phases as student and teacher, I hope the experiences learned will better equip me to make the third phase one that is productive and positive for the students and faculty of DJHS.

With your child in mind,

Eddie Joslin
