DHS library is a support
service to the academic curriculum and strives primarily to provide print and
non-print materials, audio-visual equipment, and software to assist teachers in
meeting reference and research needs of our students. Our students will be
using the library for both study and enjoyment.
Library Rules: All school rules and policies apply in the library. The most
important consideration is respect and consideration for fellow students and
for the materials available. No food or drinks are allowed in the library.
Students will need a pass to enter the library unless they arrive with a
teacher.
Scheduling: Formal research classes will be PRESCHEDULED in August through department
chairpersons/teachers. Individual student and small group passes are provided
for teachers and do not require prescheduling. The library is open both lunch
periods for student use.

Library has an automated circulation system.
Books: DeRidder High School
Library has more than 17,000 volumes available for student and faculty use.
Twelve compute work
stations are available for student use with automated card catalogue.
Books will be due on the
1st and 15th of each month.
Books may be renewed if
needed for a longer time period.
Overdue fines are
assessed at 25˘ per day per book, not to exceed $10.00 per book.
Overdue accounts are the
responsibility of the student.
Reference Books: The library has approximately 2000 additional
reference volumes. Although reference books
do not circulate, exceptions can be made on a special needs basis.
Magazines
Our library subscribes to
60+ magazines.
We maintain copies of
back issues for up to 10 years on most titles.
The Unabridged Reader’s
Guide to Periodical Literature is an invaluable research and reference tool.
Although magazines do not
leave the library, students may make copies of articles needed for research.
SIRS
Another excellent
research and reference tool available to students and staff is the Social
Issues Resource Series. This series contains current magazine and newspaper
articles from around the world on a wide variety of social issues SIRS is available in print and online.

Library Computer Lab
Our thirty computer lab
with Internet access and a wide variety of online programs is also available
for student and staff use... In
order to participate in any
computer activities, both student and parent must have signed the
Telecommunication Services contract. This form must be on file in the library.
Coping/ Printing Services
Students are allowed to make copies free of charge from reference
books and magazines if articles are needed for research. Online information
relevant to research assignments may also be print free of charge. This service is limited to small numbers of
pages.
